
Russia is taking extra precautions with its fighter jets in Syria following the downing of its jet by Turkey.
For the first time the country has fitted air-to-air missiles on its Su-34 fighter bombers operating in Syria.
A Russian Aerospace Forces spokesman said on Monday the move was for their own self defence. These missiles were capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 60 kilometres.
