Holiday travelers have also packed highways across the nation.

To ensure traffic flows are under control, traffic police in south China's Guangdong Province have adopted a new gadget.

During the May Day holiday, traffic police in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong, use drone for traffic surveillance.

It could take pictures of drivers who illegally occupied emergency lanes on highways.

Compared with police patrol, drone could cover larger sections of highway in a shorter time, thus, providing real time feedback more quickly to police.

LI JIALIANG, Guangzhou traffic police:
"We used regular cameras taking pictures for evidence of illegal driving in the past. Compared with drone, it couldn't show the bigger picture of the situation."

Police say the drone could cover an area of 314 square kilometers during each flight and fly as high as 3,000 meters.

It could work normally under many extreme weather conditions.
